I'll admit. The game was very fun the first few years and I feel sorry for the people who missed out on that. And it wasn't the amount of people that were playing, but the kinds of people. I believe the biggest factor that contributed to the rooted communities was the clan websites.

I agree with blitz...I have to ask you people..why did tb start dieing? and why did clans start dieing?..I dont think that we can blame on this all on gene Many things probably lead to it. You could go from the sudden generation gap (TB players just got younger and younger) or you can blame it on the mexicans (joking). Clans attracted people because it was competition, shit-talk, legacy (value is different person to person). With all these clans wanting to be neutral or not fighting at all in 99 (hotzone), new players didn't have the opportunity to really get into it. Now it's pretty much too late. There aren't players to replace the players who left.

I think you nailed it on the head game. Though it does make you wonder what tb could have been if their werent so maney clan wars.

I wouldnt be so quick to blame it on clan wars either. it was the clans and the the wars and the drama of it all that kept me wanting to play each day to see what new thing would come up. if it wasnt for the the clans and the people involved in them, my interest would have waned quickly. When I first started noticing the tags, I was curious what it took to even get in them. I was in 99 a few weeks before I was approached to be in a clan. and that was after sCY and fody and nemo friggin destroyed me in 1v1s in order to make me try harder to impress them.
although I never really mastered the skill of 1v1, I was able to get a lot better at ffa scores, and from that war scores. then it became a matter of blending in the politics of it all. dealing with potential spies from other clans trying to discover what was said in the staff boards (which apparently wasnt too hard when shippo was spoofing blood without his knowledge). trying to infiltrate other clans for the exact same reason. trying to mend ties with old allies or start feuds with others.
with the advent of more complex games, and designers that actually CARED for keeping them interesting, THAT is where tb began its downfall. even having hackers in the rooms faking scores or being invincible didnt really bug me that much. I rolled my eyes at them, sure, but I never really counted them as real players. the only reason someone would resort to cheating at a game like tankball was because they either just couldnt play well and wanted to take back the inferiority they felt, or they were normally good players who wanted to just screw with people. if they did it during a clan war and were found out, NNA would go apeshit on them and the whole clan would have to hear about it.
I still occasionally play. Im not much into 1v1s, or even small versus battles. I will do them, but I find it more enjoyable to find an decent fighter in room 1 and try to outscore them. sometimes I do, sometimes I dont. I dont even really care if I dont get first in 5 rounds anymore. I just play to see how well I can do each round. unless Im feeling mischievous and I start doing my new stalker minigame on someone.
occasionally someone I know will drop in and I get to either fight alongside them, against them, or just shoot the shit with them in 66 or 99. all the seriousness of the game has been extinguished for me. its just a shoot-em-up game again.
I would still be interested in some new features though.

Aside for the origins, I'd have to say the same.

Worm and game i think ur both right though for me..I Came into the game when their was bunches of clans and in my eyes the game was at its peak at that time..though as the years went on and more clans started to die i found the game very less interesting and i mean worm your right becuse we all came here becuse we wanted to hear what the news was.theirs no denying that..but that was 4 years ago..over the years the wars have stopped almost completly and it takes weeks for any kind of news from the clan to come out...4 years ago you could find at least 10 differnt clans at once..now theirs only 3. most of the good players have quit and moved on..Now when i did an expirement in november..of rebuilding NCH i found that it is possible to create a new clan and make it strong..but then again it would take years for it to be good . I found it very hard to keep the will of leading the clan if that makes sence. Heres my next question what is the future of game of tb and what will happen to the clans.
